Our Closed Cattery Policy: Prioritizing Health and Safety
At Southwest Munchkin Cattery, we understand that you are excited to meet your potential new family member. However, for the health and safety of every Munchkin under our care, we operate as a closed cattery and do not allow general public visitors. This policy is standard among ethical, reputable breeders in the USA.
The Critical Reasons Behind Our Policy
- Protecting Our Vulnerable Kittens: Young kittens have immature immune systems. Visitors can inadvertently track in serious pathogens, like Feline Panleukopenia (FPL), Feline Calicivirus, or even highly contagious strains of ringworm, on their clothing or shoes. A closed cattery minimizes this exposure.
- Protecting Our Queens (Mothers): New or strange scents and interactions can cause significant stress to new mothers, potentially impacting the care they give their fragile newborns. We prioritize a calm, sterile, and predictable environment for them.
- Security: Our cattery houses valuable, purebred animals. A no-visiting policy protects our home and our animals from potential theft.
- Minimizing Stress: Even well-meaning visitors can cause stress to the resident cats and kittens. A low-stress environment is essential for proper socialization and growth.
How We Provide Transparency Instead
We replace in-person visits with thorough, transparent documentation:
- Virtual Updates: Approved adopters on our Waiting List receive frequent, detailed photo and video updates of their kitten growing up.
- Health Documentation: We provide full health records, veterinary reports, and a written Health Guarantee.
- Meeting Day: You will meet the kitten’s parents (Dams and Sires) on the agreed-upon, scheduled pickup day when your kitten is fully vetted and ready to go home.
We thank you for understanding that our strict policy is a direct reflection of our unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of every Munchkin we raise.
